Why Shamil founded YM Group Bham
YM Group Bham was set up to bring a more considered standard to Birmingham’s short-let and serviced accommodation market. Across the city there is no shortage of property being converted for short stays, but the experience for guests is uneven, and the underlying asset is often treated as something to extract from rather than something to build. Shamil founded the group to do the opposite: take on the refurbishment and conversion work properly, then run the finished space with the same care.
The intent was practical from the start. Source the right buildings, improve them through full refurbishment where needed, convert them for short-let or serviced use where it makes sense, and keep them operating to a standard that owners, neighbours and guests can all live with. The aim is a portfolio of homes that look after themselves because the foundations, the spec, the finish, the systems behind the scenes, were got right at the beginning.
Shamil’s role in the business
As founder, Shamil leads the overall direction of YM Group Bham. In practice that covers a wide range of work: deciding which buildings fit the group’s thesis, signing off on refurbishment scope and finish, shaping how each property is presented, and setting the standards the operations side has to meet day to day.
He is involved in the brand and marketing side of the business , how YM Group Bham is positioned, the tone of the website, the way photography and copy are produced for each home, and in the guest experience that follows once a property goes live. The thread between all of it is consistency: the same standard from the way a project is acquired and refurbished, to the way a guest is welcomed into the finished space.
